评论: The son of a carver of ship figureheads, be became an Impressionist who lived and worked most of his life in France, especially in Brittany, beginning 1890-97. He was in Norway, c.1909-11; and Italy, c.1913; 1911-18, France; 1918-22, Stroudwater, ME; and again in France, 1923-33. He worked in oils and in hard point pastel, and was a member of the Old Lyme art colony. He also painted on Monhegan Island (ME). In Hartford, he taught at Art Soc. (now Hartford Art School). He began a summer school in Quebec in 1897 which lasted until at least 1899. He contributed articles on art to Farmington Magazine, c.1900. He left Old Lyme c.1918 and thereafter lived more abroad than in the U.S. His work was largely neglected, if not forgotten, because his sister stored his paintings away in an attic until its discovery in the mid 1970s.
