评论: When he immigrated to the U.S. in 1869, he was already successful and financially secure, counting Queen Victoria, the Grand Duke Alexander of Russia and other members of royalty among his patrons. In 1873, he made his first trip to the West, including Yosemite and Mexico. He was highly regarded for his mountain landscapes. At his death, his estate contained about 1,000 works.
