1798:He settled on landscape painting
1792:Hokusai left the establishment
1775:At nineteen, he was enrolled in the school of Katsukawa Shunsho, one of the leading woodblock artisans of the time
He took the name of Hokusai
He was adopted when he was four or five by Nakajima Ise (possibly his natural father)
His family name was Kawamura at birth
