评论: An accomplished, successful miniature painter, Malbone began as a painter of landscape scenery for the theater in Newport, RI. He painted his first miniature in Providence, RI, in 1794 and thereafter began traveling along the East coast, executing miniatures in Boston (1796-97), NYC (1797), Philadelphia (1798), and Charleston, SC (1801). In May, 1801 he visited England with Washington Allston and while there attempted some larger paintings (including "The Hours," Providence Ath.). Malbone returned to Charleston, SC in late 1801 (and again in 1806), and over the next several years continued his itinerant life, painting in Charleston; Savannah, GA; as well as the Northern cities. Late in 1806 he became ill and traveled to Jamaica, stopping at Savannah on his return, where he died in May, 1807.
