评论： Worked as an itinerant artist in Europe before emigrating to the United States in 1837 and enlisting in the army. He may have made drawings of the Seminole War in Florida. After his discharge in 1840 he married a French-Canadian woman and soon after moved to Canada. Painting in Toronto, Longueuil, Montreal, and Quebec, he became well known for his paintings of Indian life and his rustic scenes of peasants and farmers. In 1868 he moved to Chicago where he remained except for a visit to Canada in 1871.
