评论: He was in Philadelphia from 1850-54, returning in 1858 after study in Europe. He served during the Civil War, went abroad again about 1865, and had a studio in NYC from 1866-77, painting from the mountaintops in Keene Valley, Northern New York state, at least during the summer of 1868. In 1896 he was living in Chalmers, IN, and in 1902 he was admitted to the Indiana State Soldiers' Home at Lafayette. During his last years Lawrie painted a series of 158 portraits of Civil War Generals.
