评论: (Born Morris Bernstein) Post-abstract expressionist painter, he was initially influenced by Jackson Pollock and Robert Motherwell, but forged new territory after being introduced to the work of Helen Frankenthaler in 1953. In spilling layers of thinned paint on unprimed canvas, sometimes folding or pleating it, he manipulated space, line, color and shapes, forcing a new awareness of the painting surface. His major series include Veils (1954, 1957-59), Florals (1959-60), Unfurleds (1960); and Stripes (1961-62).
