评论： Grew up in St. Lawrence County (NY) and began his career as a cameo-cutter in Canton (NY). He moved to NYC in 1842 and was active in the area until 1866, when he moved to Dodge County, Minnesota. He disappears from public records after 1867. Between 1848-62 Ellis executed numerous medals for the U.S. Mint (some in collaboration with Joseph Willson), including four presidential and two military medals. He contributed a bas-relief medallion portrait of Lincoln (called the Lincoln-Indian Peace Medal) to the Metropolitan Fair of 1864 (held to raise money for the sick and wounded men of the Union Army). Ellis was a friend of Emanuel Leutze in Washington, DC.
