评论: His father, the Rev. William West was then rector of that parish, but in 1779 he became rector of St. Paul's in Baltimore. The son began painting portraits before he was fifteen. Having contracted tuberculosis in London, young West returned to his Baltimore home early in 1790. During the next few years he continued to paint portraits but his career was cut short in his twenty-sixth year.
