评论: In her life, Tomkins received the most recognition in the 1940s-50s for her paintings, inward adaptations of Surrealism, based on her metamorphic observations and Automatism. Over time her work evolved into Abstract Expressionism, Color Field experiments and non-objective personal expressions. In 1959 most of her life work and that of her husband, James FitzGerald, was destroyed in a fire. She continues to work into the 1990s despite a stroke suffered in the late 1980s. Position: teacher, Sch. Art, Univ. Wash., 1939; and Spokane Art Center.
