评论: White had a long-time ambition to become a painter but was not able to afford formal art instruction until the 1920s. During the Depression he supported himself as a door-to-door salesman but devoted all free time to painting. He produced over 100 works depicting one particular view along Twining Road near his home. In 1946, at the age of 78, he was given a solo show at Artists Gallery in Philadelphia, the first time his works were ever exhibited. A New York show was planned for the following year but was cancelled after his death in 1947.
