评论: Illustrator of his own geological writings. Blake trained as a mineralogist and chemist, and during a long career became one of the leading geologists of the country. His work as an artist was chiefly in connection with the Pacific Railroad surveys, 1854-56, his drawings being reproduced in Report of a Geological Reconaissance in California (N.Y. 1858) and in U.S. Exploring Expeditions, V, opp. p. 258. Teaching: professor of mineralogy and geology, Univ. California; director, School Mines, Univ. Arizona.
