评论: Came to America with his parents in 1836, settling in Pelham. A son of the Rev. Robert Bolton (1788-1857). He was from a family of artists that included his sisters Adelaide and Abby and brother William Jay Bolton (see entries). John Bolton was an architect, but in 1862 he took orders as a priest in the Episcopal Church. From 1864 to 1891 he was Rector of the Church of the Holy Trinity in West Chester (Pa.) and from 1891 until his death, Dean of Chester. His daughter Abby (1849-1885) may have been the Abby Bolton who exhibited at the National Academy in 1871-72.
