评论: His father a mayor of New Haven, Jared was a younger brother of George W. and Henry C. Flagg (see entries). He graduated from Trinity College, Hartford (CT) and then took up the study of painting. In 1837-38 Flagg was in New Haven, in 1839 in Newark (NJ), from 1840 to 1849 in Hartford, and thereafter in NYC. About 1850 he began the study of theology, was ordained a priest in the Episcopal church in 1855, and served parishes in Brooklyn until 1863. After 1863 he resumed his career as a professional painter in New Haven and later in NYC. In later life he was one of the organizers of the Yale Art Library and the author of Life and Letters of Washington Allston.
