评论： The elder son of Benjamin West (see entry), Raphael was born in London in 1769. He was an intimate friend of William Dunlap (see entry) while the latter was studying in London. He was well known for his painting of Orlando rescuing his brother from the lioness in As You Like It published in Boydell's Shakespeare Gallery and for his skill in drawing trees and figures. He came to America in 1800, intending to settle in Western New York, but returned to England two years later. In his later years he did some lithographic work.
