评论: Came to Boston from Norway and spent some time in New England. He came to New Orleans c.1860, where he worked as a clerk, then comission merchant, cotton weigher and cotton broker. During this time he also studied and worked as an artist and became a full time artist c.1880. He shared studios with Molinari (see entry), Perelli (see entry) and Paul Poincy (see entry) and became the popular successor of Clague (see entry) as a landscape painter. Live oaks were his typical subject and he also painted scenes of the Teche and Attakapas regions.
