评论: Thompson studied law with his father in Baltimore, but in 1859 decided to become an artist and opened a studio in Baltimore. In 1860, during the first year of the Civil War, he was an illustrator for Harper"s and the Illustrated London News, but in 1861 he left to study in Paris. He also traveled to Italy and Germany before establishing his studio in NYC in 1868. He made several return trips to France, Spain, North Africa, and the Mediterranean. In addition to his travel landscapes, many of his exhibited works were of colonial revolutionary subjects. Cf. Alfred Thompson.
