评论: Immigrated to the U.S. in 1885. He worked as a decorator of china and also taught the subject, 1888-1900, in Detroit, MI, and later in Pasadena, CA. Having been very successful at his craft, he built an Italian Renaissance style studio-home in Pasadena and began painting landscapes, as well as still lifes and coastal scenes. He is considered one of the best plein-air painters and earned a reputation for his use of color, especially in his paintings of roses.
