评论: Between 1918-24, he was became known in Europe for his designs for theatrical costumes and decor for Diaghliev"s Ballet Russe. He left Russia in 1924, and emigrated to NYC in 1939 where he worked largely for the Metropolitan Opera, the New Opera Co., and City Center Theatre. In 1947, he returned to Paris but spent the last eight months of his life back in NYC. He illustrated books by Dostoyevsky, Pouchkine, Leskow, and Andersen.
