评论: After a successful career as a lawyer and businessman, he went to Italy for 6 years and started painting there, returning to the U.S. in 1929. After living in California, he came to Wash., DC in 1933 to organize the Public Works of Art Project. In 1940 he was appointed to the Commission on Fine Arts by Franklin Roosevelt. Position: chief, Sect. FA, WPA.
