评论: Best known for her landscapes and floral still life works in color woodblock prints and gouache. Her work was strongly influenced by Japonisme. Patterson is remembered as an important figure in woodblock printing. She made her first color woodblock print in 1911, using only apple wood for her blocks and grinding her own natural and vegetable colors. She taught drawing in the Boston Public Schools, 1898-1915; then became head of the art dept., Dana Hall Sch., Wellesley, MA, 1915-40; also founded a summer school in Monhegan (ME). She traveled throughout Italy annually, 1922-29. She painted in Belgium, Holland, France, Spain, and at the artist colonies at Cape Ann (MA), Cape Cod (MA), Ogunquit (ME), and Monhegan Island (ME). Previous birth dates of 1868 and 1869 in various sources are incorrect. Signature note: Her earlier signature (c.1899-1919) tends to be precise, whether as initials or fully printed out in block letters; it becomes looser in the 1920s.
