评论: A "Renaissance man," Butler was talented in several fields, finally settling into an art career in 1884. He was best known for his coastal scenes, but also painted several eclipses in 1918-25. He went to Paris in 1884 and was painting at the artists colony in Concarneau, Brittany in 1886. In 1887, after returning from study in Paris, he traveled extensively throughout the U.S., Mexico, and Canada; painted in East Hampton, 1880s, and Bermuda in 1929. Position: supervisor, astronomy exhibits, AMNH.
