评论: Western painter and illustrator. Born Ernest Dufault, he came to Montana c.1911, using the alias of Will James. Worked as a cowboy and rodeo worker before WWI. About 1922 Harald von Schmidt and Maynard Dixon helped pay his way to NYC so that he could work for Scribner's. Wrote and illustrated numerous books about cowboy life (one per year were issued), including the titles The Drifting Cowboy," "Cowboys, North and South," "Smoky," "Lone Cowboy" (the last two having been made into movies). He died an alcoholic on his 12,000 acre ranch. Samuels list his death place as Los Angeles.
