评论: Powell was best known for his landscapes of both Venice and the Grand Canyon. He had served in the Virginia calvalry during the Civil War, after which he studied in Philadelphia. In 1875, while studying in London, his subject matter and painting style were influenced by the works of J.M.W. Turner. He returned to Europe in 1890 and became known for his scenes of Venice. In 1901, he made a trip to the West, painting in the Grand Canyon. In 1910, he traveled throughout the Middle East, painting landscapes of the Holy Land.
