评论： Made sketches of California towns and missions during a visit in 1856-57. These have been subsequently reproduced in Account of a Tour of the California Missions, 1856 (Grabhorn Press, 1952) and Thirteen California Towns from the Original Drawings (Book Club of Calif., 1947). He had previously traveled in the West Indies, Mexico, and South America. His works are very rare and have considerable historical significance. Cf. Henry Müller.
