Inside Outsider Art [2020年01月17日]

It’s almost a textbook case: when a movement, disconnected from any existing networks, begins to gain visibility – often via self-funded exhibitions – and brings together a small community of artists, connoisseurs and collectors, it already has a reasonable chance of sticking. Then galleries get involved… public recognition starts to pick up… the artists’ works […]

Takis the magician (1925-2019) The art world lost two of its most illustrious representatives this summer: Carlos CRUZ-DIEZ (1923-2019) and then Vassilakis TAKIS (1925-2019)  who died at the age of 93. A nail floating motionless in space; a cylinder and a ball that seem to dance to the sound of a dreamlike music… works that seem to […]

The FIAC opens on Thursday 21 October 2010 [2010年10月11日]

According to Thierry Ehrmann, founder and CEO of Artprice, against a backdrop of economic crisis and uncertainty, the forthcoming 37th edition of the FIAC (21-24 October 2010) will re-affirm the Parisian fair’s stature as the veritable reference in European Contemporary art, particularly now that the Frieze Art Fair seems to be losing momentum.

New York sales perk up… [2009年11月16日]

Is the art market recovering? That’s at least the impression given by Sotheby’s impressive $117.1m total revenue from its Contemporary Art sale on 11 November 2009. The figure is way above the auctioneer’s total estimates which were at worst a third and at best a half as much. Christie’s on the other hand was far from posting a “surprise” total with just $63.9m from 39 lots sold the previous day.

The Second School of Paris – or informal art after WWII [2006年10月11日]

Over the last ten years, the price index for the second School of Paris has risen 130%; but it has not yet overtaken the level it reached at the height of the art market bubble in 1990/1991.The term second School of Paris refers to abstract artists working in France between 1940 and 1965. Like the Nice School, the Paris School is not a school as such, but rather a label that allows the art world to lump together a mixed bag of French and foreign artists living in France including the Russian Serge POLIAKOFF, Hans HARTUNG from Germany, Gustave SINGIER from Belgium, JJean-Michel ATLAN from Algeria, and Maria Elena VIEIRA DA SILVA from Portugal, among others. According to a number of art critics, these artists had interests in common with other “informals” like Pierre SOULAGES, Jean FAUTRIER, Maurice ESTEVE, Gustave SINGIER, Roger Bissière and Jean Bertholle.
