Jules Monge (1855-1934), painter from Marseille, south-east France. Student of Cabanel, Édouard Detaille and SaintPierre. He exhibited at the “Salon des Artistes français” where he became member from 1908. Professor of drawing at the International Institute of Paris, he exhibited Orientalist paintings of the years 1881-1899 at the « Salon des Champs-Elysées ». Academy officer, Monge specialized in military subjects and Algeria horsemen. After the First World War, he drew mainly scenes of daily life in China.
