PIETER MOLIJN 1595 - 1661 Landscape Black chalk and grey wash, watercolor added later 22.1 x 32.2 cm
Watermark: Fleur de Lis in an Armoir
The attribution was confirmed verbally by Prof. Wolfgang Schulz upon seeing the drawing in original. The watercolor, which is a later addition, does not distract from the beautiful black chalk and grey wash under-drawing which is executed in the typical style and technique of Pieter Molijn which can be compared with many other examples of his graphic oeuvre. The present drawing must be dated to the 1630's, which is confirmed by the watermark which is recorded in Amsterdam during that time period.
