Oil on wood board signed « E Friant” & dated “87” on bottom left part. Provenance : Private collection in Paris. The signature “E.Friant” do appear under blue UV light as well as the dating “87”. Friant was a very precocious talent and it was confirmed already in 1887, date of this painting. During the years 1886-1887, Friant traveled abroad, first to Belgium and the Netherlands with the painters Henri Royer and Armand Lejeune, then to Italy with Constant Coquelin. Emile Friant had the common sense and solidity of realists. Excellent technician who knew how to do everything in the field of drawing and painting specially of landscapes, his art came from the tender and quirky look he took on the world.
