From 1945 he evokes the destruction of war with landscapes of gaunt trees, pale mornings, damaged vegetation and above all the absence of human presence. The 1945-46 Small winter picture I Oil canvas 54x65cm Lehr Auctions Berlin 31-10-2015 lot 122, c.1946 Winter scene Oil canvas 70x86cm Lehr Auctions Berlin 25-4-2015 lot 121 or later ones as the 1956 Large winter picture Oil canvas 90x141cm Lehr Auktion Berlin 31-10-2015 lot 121. Ours seems more optimistic even with dark silhouettes. The signature compared with one of his lithograph titled Slonim (Posen) 25x37cm leaves no doubt. From these objective points, the date of 1961 is obvious. Probably the artist has drawn a line on the « 1 » looking like a « 7 » as a finish, as if he felt it would be one of his last creations.
