The "Narratives" series is comprised of nine etchings, matted and framed, on chine collé with a Rives BFK wove support. Signed and numbered 23/45 by the artist.
In this work, typical of Ligon's use of text, the artist mimics not only the typical nineteenth century design and typeface of a slave narrative but also a nineteenth century vernacular. He includes quotations from Hilton Als, Josephine Baker, and Derek Walcott, but in the end, as is usual with the work of Ligon, the story is about his own life as a modern day African American.
