19th century作品描述
Verwee painted landscapes and animals. Realistic representations of animals at first in a rather sombre palette. From 1878 however, he came to full bloom: with broad brush strokes in bright colors he painted cattle in pastures. His often large compositions lyrically evoke the unity between the animals and the fertile land.
The present work will have be created in the period after 1878. It is interesting to see how the artist succeeded in capturing the bulls energy and movement in this image.
Verwee was the founder and leader of the artist colony in Knokke.
His work can be found in the Museums Antwerp, Brussels, Gent, Kortrijk, Liège, Elsene, Montréal (Canada), Groningen and the Mesdag Museum in The Hague (Netherlands).
